Different phones for different people: OnePlus 10 Pro vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro is OnePlus' latest and best flagship smartphone, and it's one of the few high-end smartphone releases this year. We described it as a terrific phone in its own right in our review, but it's difficult to justify buying it over a phone like the OnePlus 9 Pro. Nonetheless, comparing it to the iPhone 13 Pro, perhaps the greatest smartphone on the market right now makes sense.

Hardware & Design Comparison: OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro

  • The display on the OnePlus 10 Pro is larger and brighter.
  • Both phones have a quality feel about them.
  • The OnePlus 10 Pro sports a striking appearance.

Hardware & Design Comparison: OnePlus 10 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro

The iPhone 13 Pro has primarily flat sides and strong edges.

Both the OnePlus 10 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro have a glass slab design, however, the OnePlus 10 Pro is much larger. It's a lot taller than the iPhone 13 Pro's 6.06-inch display, with a 6.7-inch panel.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a chilly, mechanical feel to it, with hard corners and flat sides. Because of the harsh edges and flat sides, it's actually more difficult to handle with one hand than the OnePlus 10 Pro, which has curved sides that fit comfortably in the hand.

To be honest, I think the screen on the OnePlus 10 Pro is a lot better than the one on the iPhone 13 Pro. Putting aside the size (which the OnePlus 10 Pro clearly has in terms of content consumption), it's a lot brighter in typical use, and it's also a better quality display.

The iPhone 13 Pro features LTPO, but it can only go down to 10Hz, whereas the OnePlus 10 Pro boasts a WQHD+ resolution display with a refresh rate that can range from 1 to 120Hz.

The notch is the last nail in the coffin for me; the iPhone 13 Pro still has an unattractive notch, but the OnePlus 10 Pro has a hole-punch camera in the upper left corner.

Hardware & Design Comparison: OnePlus 10 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro

The iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, features a "traditional" triple camera array contained in a glass square.

Because of the frosted glass on both of these gadgets, the rear panels do not gather fingerprints, while the side rails on the iPhone do.

On their own, they both feel luxurious, but the iPhone 13 Pro seems heavier for its size. The camera module of the OnePlus 10 Pro is squared off from the edge to accommodate three cameras, and instead of cutting off abruptly, it arcs outward to the device's body.

In contrast, the iPhone 13 Pro has a "conventional" triple camera array enclosed in a glass square.

Comparing the internal and overall performance of the OnePlus 10 Pro. iPhone 13 Pro

  • On paper, the Apple A15 Bionic is more powerful, but in practice, it makes little difference.
  • Great battery life all around, but the OnePlus 10 Pro's rapid charging is a huge plus.
  • The biometric unlocking on the OnePlus 10 Pro is significantly better.

Comparing the internal and overall performance of the OnePlus 10 Pro. iPhone 13 Pro

When it comes to performance, the OnePlus 10 Pro has some of the greatest specs available on Android. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, as well as up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

It has the most powerful hardware in a OnePlus device to date, and it represents the pinnacle of Android. The iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, comes with the Apple A15 Bionic, an incredibly powerful chip that easily outperforms any other mobile SoC. There's also up to 1TB of storage and 6GB of RAM.

When it comes to performance, the OnePlus 10 Pro offers some of the greatest specs available on Android. The Apple A15 Bionic, on the other hand, is an incredibly powerful processor that outperforms nearly every other mobile SoC.

While the A15 Bionic outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, its performance in an iPhone is comparable to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in an Android device.

That is to say, unless you are truly pushing it to its limits, you will get the same experience on both platforms.

You can't simulate consoles on iPhones without a lot more effort than on an Android phone, and the only meaningful advantages you'll get are while playing games like Genshin Impact (which will still run very well on Android).

All of this is to suggest that if you're a casual mobile player who enjoys online browsing, social networking, and other light hobbies, you won't notice any significant differences.

Apps launch as quickly as you'd expect on the OnePlus 10 Pro, maybe even faster than the iPhone 13 Pro. The OnePlus 10 Pro's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is restricted by software out of the box (as we explained in our review linked at the top of this page), but you can simply unleash its performance in your device settings.

The OnePlus 10 Pro has an in-display fingerprint scanner beneath its display screen for biometrics. It's an optical scanner, which means it lights up when you tap it, which may be unsettling, especially at night if your thumb isn't entirely covering it.

I still prefer it over Facial ID, which was inconvenient until recently due to the use of face masks. Face ID now works with masks thanks to a recent iOS update, however, it's not as safe as before, and I'm concerned that it may be unlocked by a brother or other close lookalike, especially because enabling it to operate with a mask is intrinsically less secure.

In terms of battery life, the iPhone 13 Pro comes out on top. The OnePlus 10 Pro gets a good day's worth of use, but it can't compete with Apple's efficiency.

I can easily get a day and a half of use out of the iPhone 13 Pro, however, the OnePlus 10 Pro just gets a day's worth of use. The iPhone will win out in the end, but the OnePlus 10 Pro won't be far behind for the ordinary user.

If your lifestyle necessitates you always being near a plug, the OnePlus 10 Pro's super-fast 65W/80W charging is a non-issue. Apple's iPhone 13 Pro charges at a far slower rate of 18-27W, so you'll be stuck with that.

Camera Comparison: OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro

  • Smartphone cameras are improving rapidly.
  • When all three sensors are compared, the iPhone 13 Pro comes out on top.
  • On the primary sensor, the OnePlus 10 Pro holds its own.
The OnePlus 10 Pro features a 50MP, f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, an f/1.8, 1/1.43-inch Sony IMX789 primary camera, an 8MP, f/2.4 telephoto zoom lens with 3.3x optical zoom, and an f/1.8, 1/1.43-inch Sony IMX789 telephoto zoom lens, and an 8MP, f/2.4 telephoto zoom lens with 3.3x optical zoom.

The ultra-wide lens is a Samsung JN1 sensor with a 150-degree field-of-view, however, it's a lower-quality sensor than the OnePlus 9 Pro due to the smaller image sensor size.

The iPhone 13 Pro has a familiar-feeling triple 12MP primary camera system, but each lens has a bigger sensor, including a significant boost for the main camera and a better 3x telephoto zoom. The iPhone 13 Pro's selfie camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels.

The iPhone 13 Pro, as predicted, completely dominates the OnePlus 10 Pro. The OnePlus 10 Pro can compete on the main sensor, but Apple clearly wins in the wide-angle and telephoto categories.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is now in its second year of partnership with Hasselblad, a Swedish photography company. OnePlus' R&D team meets with Hasselblad's counterparts once a month throughout the OnePlus 10
Pro's development cycle to fine-tune the camera's algorithms with an emphasis on "natural hues," according to the company.

Although the photographs below are compressed, you can still get a sense of the lighting and overall detail gathering from them.

Main camera

It's worth noting that both of these cameras are excellent.

To be clear, before we go into the specifics of both cameras, it's vital to note that both of them are excellent cameras.

You can't go wrong with any of these smartphones if you're looking for a smartphone that can take nice images but is more concerned with everything else.

Smartphone cameras have improved to the point that you don't need to be picky about which phone you buy, while it's reasonable if you want to go for the best of the best.

With everything out of the way, the shots below are the first batch of images that we can compare between the two devices, and it really comes down to personal choice.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

According to the photographs above, the OnePlus 10 Pro takes somewhat brighter photos, and the iPhone 13 Pro takes slightly cooler photos. The OnePlus 10 Pro performed a better job capturing the park shot and the church photo, in my opinion.

I also believe that the stuffed cat was more authentic, but that the shot from the iPhone 13 Pro looks better. It's brighter and more colorful in that case, but I believe the OnePlus 10 Pro nailed it somewhat better.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

The iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, outperforms the OnePlus 10 Pro in low light. It's a little brighter and has a little more detail, and in complete darkness, the iPhone 13 Pro will obliterate the OnePlus 10 Pro.

Even with night mode activated, it struggled to shoot a shot in a dark setting, whereas the iPhone 13 Pro made a fair effort.

Camera Comparison: OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro

All of these photographs would be unrecognizable in terms of whose phone shot them in everyday photos. When it comes to photo-taking abilities, these phones are quite evenly matched, and you should be satisfied with either.

I believe the iPhone 13 Pro has once again proved its preference for cooler hues, particularly when comparing how the last shot in the gallery above appears significantly more orange than the iPhone's output. I believe it was more accurate because it was nearing 6 p.m. and the sun was setting.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

Overall, everything comes down to personal choice. Do you like photographs that are more subdued? The iPhone 13 Pro will try to do even better. However, it all relies on your own priorities.

Many individuals will modify their images anyhow, in which case the color temperature will be irrelevant. Both phones produce very adequate photographs for social networking and other purposes, and the primary sensor is dead heat between them.

However, I believe the iPhone 13 Pro has a large and consistent advantage in low-light photography.

Ultra-wide and telephoto lenses

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

Both the OnePlus 10 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro do an excellent job of maintaining color temperature consistency throughout the three focal ranges (ultra-wide, wide, telephoto).

Not only that, but both phones switch between lenses rapidly, which is ideal for snapping images quickly. This is wonderful since all three lenses on these gadgets are equal.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

The OnePlus 10 Pro certainly gets a little bit closer in telephoto photographs, due to the 3.3x optical zoom vs 3x. It's not really apparent, and it's certainly not worth dwelling on.

The zooms are nearly identical, albeit I feel that the iPhone 13 Pro's telephoto images have greater detail than the OnePlus 10 Pro's. The OnePlus 10 Pro's details were frequently smoothed off and softened.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro: Camera

The OnePlus 10 Pro's super-wide-angle camera is substantially broader than the iPhone 13 Pro's, but you won't notice. It's buried in the camera's "More" area, and I can't conceive of a time when I'd want to utilize it.

It causes enormous distortion at the margins, as seen above, where the bridge arm seems nearly spherical. It could make sense for bigger landscape images, but I believe that this mode's general value is limited.

The OnePlus 10 Pro's wide-angle camera falls short of the iPhone 13 Pro's, but only by a little margin. It can take quite decent photos in good lightings, such as the one seen above, and, as previously said, the color science on both devices is consistent, which is also a plus.

The iPhone continues to reign supreme in the world of mobile video, and it's not even close.

The OnePlus 10 Pro enjoys boosting the color richness of video, but the iPhone 13 Pro might appear washed out in comparison.

The iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, has a significantly higher degree of detail, and I find that it produces a more realistic image, especially in low-light situations. iPhones continue to reign supreme in mobile video, and it's not even close.

Software comparison between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the Apple iPhone 13 Pro

  • In 2022, the choice between Android and iOS is totally subjective.
  • iOS offers more apps and software support.
  • OxygenOS, the operating system from OnePlus, has its own set of problems.

Software comparison between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the Apple iPhone 13 Pro

Software comparison between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the Apple iPhone 13 Pro

When it comes to software, the difference between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro becomes purely subjective.

Perhaps you prefer Apple's iOS or Google's Android. But, regardless of whether you choose, neither of these technologies is going to persuade you to change your mind about your choices.

There's no purpose in pointing out all of the distinctions. Some of the fundamental differences are clear, such as how each OS handles alerts differently (though I had no difficulties with the OnePlus 10 Pro), or how Android can sideload programs but iOS can't (well, iOS can, but it's a pain).

There is, however, something to be said about how wonderful iOS apps are in general. While not all of them are exact replicas of what I've loved on Android, all of the ones I've tried seem quite well-integrated.

On iOS, Facebook Messenger and Instagram are far superior to those on Android, and Spotify is also a far superior app.

Apps for iOS are often better made than their Android counterparts, which is true of almost every iOS app I've used.

I would have declared a few years ago that I was a fan of OxygenOS and that I like using it on my cellphones. However, now that it is effectively a branch of ColorOS, I've discovered that it has lost part of its distinctiveness.

ColorOS is one of my favorite operating systems, however OxygenOS, as previously said, has certain peculiarities. For example, I've observed that the OnePlus Shelf starts as a standalone app rather than as a UI overlay.

When you shut the Shelf, it closes like an app, with the motion of it closing and sliding towards the bottom of the screen, just like when you close the notification panel by swiping down on the right of the notifications.

Apple has beaten Microsoft in terms of software quality.

As a result, Apple has beaten Microsoft in terms of software polish. While the software of the iPhone 13 Pro isn't flawless, it is more consistent than OxygenOS. You can't go wrong with either phone, and you'll feel right at home with any operating system you choose if you stick with it.

When it comes to software lifetime, Apple clearly wins. While the firm does not specify how long it wants to maintain its phones, it appears that five years is the very least these days.

The OnePlus 10 Pro, on the other hand, is slated to receive three major platform upgrades (i.e., three years of updates) plus an additional year of security fixes.

The OnePlus 10 Pro's bootloader can be unlocked, allowing you to install a custom ROM if you so choose, which Apple customers can only dream of.

Conclusion: OnePlus 10 Pro vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro

Conclusion: OnePlus 10 Pro vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro

Getting involved in the iPhone vs. Android discussion is always a risky proposition. It's a hard ask for folks who are completely involved in the Apple ecosystem to abandon it and switch.

When the idea of converting to an iPhone is dangled in front of a die-hard Android user, it's frequently an immediate "no." That isn't to say that there isn't a better option between the two; it just means it's more nuanced.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is exactly what you're searching for if you want a smartphone with a large, brilliant screen and an open software experience.

For the media junkie, this is a no-brainer with superfast performance, superb gaming skills, and media-consuming capability.

The iPhone 13 Pro, on the other hand, is more up your alley if you don't mind paying a little extra for a more consistent software experience, better cameras, and lengthier upgrades.

Overall, anyone looking for a new smartphone may benefit from either of these devices; it's just that they excel in different areas.

You can't go wrong with any of them, and if you're already in the Android or iOS ecosystem, there's no harm in sticking with it if these are your only two alternatives.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is competitive in all categories and is even a touch less expensive. Both of these phones, on the other hand, are different phones for different individuals, which is OK.
